Syntra West launches new “Data Centre Technician” training programme in collaboration with Datacenter United and the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA).

Datacenter United is trots om als partner en gastheer deel te nemen aan deze praktijkgerichte training, waarbij we onze expertise inbrengen en studenten een kijkje achter de schermen geven in een volledig operationeel datacenter.

Kortrijk | Tuesday, 26 August 2025 | Due to the explosive growth in AI applications, cloud solutions and the ever-increasing demand for data storage, the data centre market in Belgium is growing at a record pace. In response to this evolution, Syntra West, in close collaboration with Datacenter United and BDIA, is launching a new training programme for data centre technicians. The programme is practice-oriented and has been developed with input from experienced data centre experts to ensure that future technicians are optimally prepared for a career in the most crucial links of our digital economy.

Strong growth of data centres in Belgium
According to market analyses by Mordor Intelligence, Belgian data centre capacity will increase from 207.1 MW in 2025 to 389.6 MW in 2030, representing an annual growth rate of 13.47%. Colocation revenue will grow from USD 190.6 million to USD 484.8 million over the same period, a CAGR of 20.52% (mordorintelligence.com).

According to the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA), the Belgian data centre market will grow to 261 MW by 2029, representing an average annual growth rate of 20.5%. The total colocation space in Belgium currently amounts to approximately 118,000 m², with an IT load above 100 MW (BIDA.be). These figures underline the growing demand for well-trained technicians to keep this infrastructure running.

What does a data centre technician do?
A data centre technician is responsible for the operational continuity of a data centre. This ranges from monitoring and optimising energy and cooling systems to quickly and efficiently resolving malfunctions, taking safety procedures into account.

Focus of the training
The training emphasises the daily operation of a data centre and ensuring uptime. Among other things, participants learn:

The operation and structure of a data centre
Troubleshooting in energy and cooling systems
Monitoring and preventive maintenance• Safety procedures and access management
Collaborating in a 24/7 environment
With this training programme, we are investing in the future of digital infrastructure in Belgium,‘ says Friso Haringsma, CEO of Datacenter United and chairman of BDIA. ’We want to actively contribute to training technical talent so that the continuity and reliability of data centres is guaranteed."
